Join us for a special joint presentation by Indivisible Northhampton-Swing Left Western Mass (IN-SLWM) and Indivisible Hingham-Hull on October 20, as we listen together to Danielle Allen, convening chair of the Coalition for Healthy Democracy and author of Justice by Means of Democracy, present her ideas on policy innovations needed for a healthy democracy. This is a unique opportunity to envision what we want our democracy to look like, how we want it to function, and who we want it to support – what Danielle calls “renovating” democracy.
From IN-SLWM:
In October, it will have been nine months of our experiencing “flooding the zone” and bottomless cruelty, and our witnessing the dismantling of government programs and services as well as democratic norms from birthright citizenship to voting rights and protected speech.
During those nine months we have risen in greater and greater numbers to push back, resist, protest, and demand that Congress and the Judiciary do their jobs: uphold our Constitutional rights and stop the dismantling of vital governmental services and programs. Together we can achieve and strengthen a democracy that works for everyone.
We are clear and even united about what we are fighting against – autocracy.
Now, on the verge of campaigns for the midterm elections, it’s the right time to begin a debate about what we are for. Torn down swaths of our government will leave gaping holes for us to fill … with what?
