Democracy Under Siege explores the erosion of multiracial democracy\, a circumstance which has been further underscored by the Supreme Court’s Calais decision and extreme gerrymandering\, since the film’s release. The film features Heather Cox Richardson\, Rep. Jamie Raskin\, Steven Levitsky\, Melissa Murray\, and Pulitzer winner Ann Telnaes. \nDoors open at 5:00 pm. DESCRIPTION:We’re road-tripping to save democracy friends! \nJoin us for a Ground Truth “deep” canvass—designed to help Democrats rebuild trust and win back power in the Midterms and beyond. They’re launching an innovative new program that will revolutionize how we connect with voters and potential voters at their doors.  We’ve chosen to travel to Tarrytown\, NY in NY-17 because it is a district that Swing Left has determined is critical to taking back the House this fall. \nRegister here  ***THEN please email info@indivisiblehinghamhull.org if you have questions or need help with logistics (we will not be reaching out to Mobilize registrants about travel and hotel accommodations as we are hopeful some of those folks will be local anyway). *** \nAt this canvass\, we’ll: \n\nKnock on every door in the neighborhood\, not just the same voters campaigns usually talk to.\nHave real conversations that listen deeply to voters’ concerns.\nGather rich insights for campaigns\, so they can be responsive to voters’ needs and smarter with their messaging\, targeting\, and outreach.\n\nDon’t worry if it’s your first time canvassing—training\, materials\, and support are all provided. Just bring comfortable shoes\, a charged phone\, and your passion for making a difference. Cost is approximately $250 for a hotel room (less if you double up) plus meals. We will drive down late Friday afternoon\, knock from 10:30am-1:30pm on Saturday\, and then drive back to the South shore Saturday afternoon. \nSome of us plan to use the learning we gather on a subsequent trip to Tarrytown with the South Shore Democratic Caucus on October 30-November 1 to knock doors for Cait Conley\, the Democratic Nominee for U.S. Representative. DESCRIPTION:In lieu of our regular October meeting\, please join IHH leader Debra Robbin and Ruth Zakarin\, the CEO of the MA Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence and the Chair of the Yes on 9 for a Safe MA on Wednesday\, October 14 from 7-8 pm for a conversation about what is at stake with this ballot question. \nRegister Here  \nSome Background:\nIn 2024\, MA passed its strongest gun safety law in a decade\, cracking down on ghost guns and modernizing safety regulations. Now\, the local arm of the NRA wants to overturn this law with a repeal referendum on the November 2026 ballot. \nWhile we have strong support for gun violence prevention in MA\, this question has repercussions that go much further than what we do here in the Commonwealth. We have one of the lowest gun death rates but the opposition calls themselves the Civil Rights Coalition and they are hoping that this ballot question will provide a playbook to undermining strong gun laws in other states. We can’t just win this question-we have to win by a large margin! \nGun violence has deep implications for our work to create equitable thriving communities: \n\n1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience domestic violence in their lifetimes; when an abuser has a gun\, the risk of homicide increases by 500%. Guns are used in over half of all DV homicides.\nWomen are 5 times more likely to be murdered by an abusive partner when that person has access to a gun.\nGun violence is the leading cause of death for Black children in the US.\n57% of firearm deaths in MA are due to suicide.\n1 in 3 mass shooters was legally prohibited from owning a gun at the time of the shooting.\n\nWe hope you can join this informative and engaging conversation about preventing gun violence and why it’s so important!
